May 23, 2007A few short tangents before I get to the real topic of this post.
#1. I’ve developed some basic guidelines for conduct on this blog. This is where you can read them. And please do at least skim them. Do that now.
Okay now that you’ve read my guidelines like I trust %100 of my faithful readers have done, I shall continue my tangent.
#2. I generally don’t like and thus do not participate in most tagging rituals. I don’t like it when people tell me to do something that takes a good amount of thought and time to do and then are offended when I don’t do it. This however is an exception to my general attitude because the tag pertains to a certain interest of mine, namely, what I read and what everyone else reads. Done Tangent.
Just finished reading: Show Me God by Fred Heeren. There are two precious things that I got out of the book. The first is the intelligent and well written Christian apologetics the author gives to the scientific world. While all around it seems that everything in science today seems to be opposing the concept of God, Fred Heeren shows that science and the discoveries of today actually proclaim God. The second thing I got out of this was a greater appreciation of God’s handiwork through science. Fred Heeren brings up staggering statistics and mind-blowing scientific facts that really stretch my mind to perceive God through His creation. I definitely recommend this book.
Just Beginning: Humility: True Greatness by CJ Mahaney. There are not many more people that I would like to learn humility from than my former senior pastor. Reading this book is a step in a process of my goal to make significant progress to grow in humility this summer. I’m excited to see how God will speak to me through my endeavor this summer and I expect God to use this book to help me in this.
In the middle of: Boy Meets Girl: Say Hello to Courtship by Josh Harris. Ummm… yeah. Hey, I’m 18. I gotta start thinking about these things now. Anyhow, onto the real review. Done tangent.
Another great book by another one of my former senior pastors. Seriously, this is a fantastic resource and gives many helpful and practical insights into looking into and pursuing relationships with wisdom. I definitely recommend it to people who are in or approaching this stage of life.
Planning to read: The Ghosts of Onyx by Eric Nylund. So what? I’m a nerd. Big news! Anyhow, I’ve sort of had this book since my birthday but haven’t gotten the time to read it. I hadn’t finished First Strike when I got it so I had to finish that first. So I plan to read this book because um… I think it’s good too… uh… Well, cause it’s fun. Wow. I’ll try again on this.
Planning to read: The Holiness of God by RC Sproul. Again, this book is part of my plan to pursue humility this summer. I’ve read this book before and the result was a greater amazement at how great God is and how insignificant I am. Not many books have put me in my place before God like this one.
Everyone who hasn’t read this book before, go out and buy this book ASAP. Put this book on very top of your to-read list. Interrupt what you are currently reading to read this book. It really is that good.
So those are my books. And I guess people might get irritated if I don’t tag someone. Yeah whatever, I’m not tagging anyone. If you want to fill this out, do it of your own initiative. I’m not gonna make you.
Haha, I normally don’t do them either, but I thought you might enjoy it. it caught me off-guard for a sec when you called Josh Harris your former senior pastor…you’d think I’d remember you’re a Fredneck by now
Great reading choices! Josh Harris’ book was the best book on relationships I have ever read. I just finished “When God Writes Your Love Story” by Eric and Leslie Ludy. It has much the same drive and is also very powerful. I highly reccomend that!
